We have exciting opportunity at Moorfield's Satellite site for band 3 HCA to join our highly skilled well established ophthalmology department. We are based at Potters Bar Community Hospital , Barnet Road , Potters Bar, EN6 2RY. This post is working between theatre and outpatients service, by which you can gain experience of theatre and different specialist clinics like cataract , medical retina , pre-assessment , glaucoma , virtual clinics . You will carry out and assist with specific ophthalmic procedures and support the clinic and day care staff, working as part of a multi- disciplinary team. We support patients from various specialties such as Glaucoma , Medical Retina , Cataract, Primary care and theatre. You must be of reliable character, professional and demonstrate the ability to take instruction from your seniors. You will need to be flexible and will need to rotate within the department where you will be expected to assist the nursing staff. You will support both patients in clinic and the multi disciplinary team and be able to work independently with minimal support. This post is based at our Potters Bar satellite site. Clinical and Patient Care • To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment • To exercise an agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job. • To assist in maintaining record charts such as nursing observation, weight, temperature, pulse and respirations • To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff. • To assist registered staff in the implementation of individual nursing care plans and the implementation of the patient care pathways. • To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients. • To attain the competencies of Visual Acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, technical skills of OCT, HRT, auto-refraction , OPTOS, FFA scan and visual fields having followed the Trusts required protocol. This list is not exhaustive but gives an outline of the core competency skills that are required in this role in the clinic environment. • To act as chaperon in intravitreal injection and theatre. • To assist with the monitoring of equipment and stocks as required.
